Deakin University
The last semester of the second year is dedicated to the 6-month Master's Thesis research project within one of the thirty participating. Students can choose among various topic and world renowned laboratories like at Deakin University with Prof. M.FORSYTH.
In 2017, Deakin ranked in the top 2% of the world’s HEIs according to all major international university rankings.
MESC+ students will be hosted within the Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM), Deakin’s premier research Institute. IFM is one of the leading materials science & engineering research institutes in Australia. IFM has more than 100 academic staff & 150 PhD students, working in research areas under the major themes of Innovative manufacturing technologies and Energy efficiency, resource and infrastructure sustainability. This proposal aligns with the latter theme led Prof. Maria Forsyth, a world leader in electrolyte materials research. The institute has multi-million dollar purposebuilt facilities, enabling all aspects of fundamental and applied energy storage research to be pursued at the highest level. IFM houses exceptional world class NMR & materials characterization facilities, (high resolution SEM and TEM specifically established for energy materials research). Prof Forsyth also leads the new $2M BatTRI-Hub facility for battery prototyping & industry/academic collaboration. The electromaterials research group at IFM forms a significant part of the ARC Centre of Excellence for
Electromaterials Science (ACES, 25,000,000 AUD. 2014 – 2021). ACES encompasses a network of excellent researchers & facilities. It provides excellent opportunities for a wide range of national and international collaboration; ACES incorporate 7 Australian collaborating organisations and 5 international partners, known for their expertise in
materials & device fabrication (nano-dimensional engineering)
